The 1994 Gibson F-5 Bill Monroe Signature Edition mandolin is a limited edition instrument created to replicate Bill Monroe's 1923 Lloyd Loar F-5. Only 200 of these mandolins were made, and a portion of them were finished with a varnish, which is considered rarer. Key features of the 1994 Gibson F-5 Bill Monroe Signature Edition include:
- A double-bound, F-style body with a carved spruce top and flamed maple back and sides.
- A bound ebony fingerboard with a treble extension, pearl dot inlays, and 29 frets.
- A V-neck profile and a 1 and 1/8 inch pearl nut.
- Silver-plated hardware, including F-style tuning machines with pearl buttons and an engraved Gibson tailpiece.
- A bound peghead with a flowerpot inlay and the script Gibson logo.
- An interior label signed by Bill Monroe, indicating the number of the 200 made, and another label signed by Larry Barnwell.
- A special oblong case with a plaque.
