Fender Precision Bass Vintage 1961 (Slab Board)

• Refinish in Fiesta Red

For sale: an exceptional example of an early ’60s Precision Bass and original color fiesta red. This 1961 slab-board model features a professional refinishing (Only a part) in Fiesta Red and a dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The refinished body shows masterful work while preserving an era-accurate aesthetic. This Fender Precision Bass was made in the United States in 1961. It was refinished a part in the 1980s in its own Fiesta Red color, after a rout had been made to install a Jazz pickup at the bridge position.

It is lightweight, weighing 8.2 lbs (approx. 3.7 kg), perfectly balanced, and everything appears original and correct for the period, except for the refinish and the case. The neck bears a visible pencil date of 9/60. The neck itself is not entirely clear, the soldering of the potentiometers may not be original, and the original black-base pickups deliver that unmistakable warm and punchy P-Bass tone.

The original nitrocellulose mint green pickguard and shielding plate are in excellent condition, with no cracks. All hardware—including nut, tuners, string guide, bridge, thumb rest, potentiometers, and strap buttons—is original, and it includes both the bridge cover and pickup cover. There are no additional routings.

The neck has the typical thin and fast profile of the era (0.790” at the first fret, 1.72” nut width), with original frets and a smooth setup, strung with flatwound strings that have not been changed. The truss rod works perfectly in both directions, and the neck is straight.

It comes with a non-original hard case—a simple case. This bass represents one of the last slab-board Precision Basses ever produced. It is shipped professionally packed and insured within the EU and to selected international destinations.

The photos of the pickups and neck were taken by the person who sold me the bass, who owned it from the 1980s until today. The other photos were taken by me a few days ago with a better camera, which is why there is a noticeable difference, but it is clearly the same bass.
