Vintage 1938 Gibson L-50 Archtop!

This example, fully original and displaying the pre-war Gibson archtop tone that has become legendary - is a true thing of beauty. The late 30's and early 40's L-50's have become sought after in recent years as they are struturally identical to their electric counterpart, the ES-150 "Charlie Christian" model - and quite often you'll see these pop up as "Charlie Christian" conversions with new CC pickups, replica knobs, etc.

Maintained in nice condition, with all-solid construction, including the carved spruce top and flat maple back. This example is being sold as-is due the fact that it would benefit from a neck re-set at some point in the near future. It plays nicely as it sits, but the action at the upper frets is on the high side and the bridge has no more room to lower. If you're going in for the full "CC" surgery, a neck reset would be a great addition to the luthier checklist. This guitar has a wonderful "V" neck profile that these have become famous for. The acoustic tone has a crystalline piano-like voice. The original bridge, tailpiece and tuners remain in-tact and fully functional - a marvel at nearly 90 years old! They certainly don't make them like they used to - don't miss this one!
