The Aria Diamond Violin bass, Made in Japan, was introduced approx late 60’s and research indicates they were made until about 1980. Exported under other various names, Univox, Apollo, Tiesco , Kawai and more names. The bass is the Japanese manufacturers version of the original 1960’s Gibson EB-1 Reissue. It is a laminate maple hollowbody, 2 x Humbucker pickups , single volume and tone controls. Worn Gold hardward, pickup covers, tuners etc. Unique scroll style headstock. Bound rosewood fingerboard. Zero fret near the nut and a 30″ scale length. Quality 2 per side tuners with robust black tuner heads. The height adjustable timber bridge tends to give the humbuckers a fatter muddy tone similar to the Jack Bruce fatter Gibson humbucker sound. Metal saddles/bridge would make a brighter tone. The original pickgard is missing. Some may be tempted to fit black tapewound nylon strings for that great, smooth playing upright feel and sound.
The body shows some nicks and scrapes pictured above, at some point a guitar pickup was installed for the neck pickup. It's very good overall shape & comes in it's custom sized case. Priced with all of this in consideration.
