Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a rare older used Atlas desk stand from the 1960's era and perfect for just about any screw on type microphone or mic clip. The design shows that it's clearly a DS-9 model. It has a thick, heavier cast iron base making this stand a great platform for most larger, heavier mics. Great for smaller and medium sized mics as well. If you remove the VM-1 from the stand then the DS-9 is perfect for that RCA 77DX or 44BX.
You'll notice that this beautiful stand comes with the matching, period Atlas VM-1 "vibration mount" adapter that not only gives the mic extra height but reduces unwanted vibration while your mic is live. It's a beautiful combination that will do any collector of fine mics justice.
Pic # 2 is from an older Atlas catalog showing this particular model from back in the 1960's and this DS-9 is a bit more obscure than the other Atlas desk stands made over years as it was only sold for about a decade before being discontinued. It has a strong midcentury vibe and built like a tank.
The DS-9 has a high quality finish. A cast iron base with a stainless steel cover and a short 4 inch stainless steel riser that will accept any screw on mic or mic clip. The DS-9 is appx This stand has some weight to it being appx 4 pounds. It's 8 inches wide X 4 inches tall but with the VM-1 on top it's appx 9 inches tall. You can removed the VM-1 at any point if you don't want to use it.
This DS-9 is the nicest example I have ever come across and looks virtually new. I rare ever get these in however as the last example of a DS-9 I had was from 2 years ago and not nearly as nice. I'd rate the cosmetic condition a true 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10.
The bottom of the base is free of any rust and I applied 6 new felt pads as the originals were coming off from decades of use.
Pic # 3 shows the Atlas VM-1 model vibration mount / shock mount. It's a quality piece made of brass with a polished chrome plate.
The VM-1 was sold by Atlas for many years but this example is period to the stand and it's just as nice. The VM-1 will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have and will accept any screw on mic or mic clip. I used the old 1950's era Amperite ribbon mic so that you can see the trues size of the mic stand. The VM-1 works perfectly and they don't come any nicer.
If you need a special set up for that special mic then the DS-9 with VM-1 will do the trick.
