Upgraded with Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups for a more vintage, PAF-style tone with added clarity and character compared to stock Carvin pickups.
The original pickups are included in sale.
These guitars have fantastic sustain aided by the one piece neck that becomes part of the body, i.e. neck through design. (see picture of the back of guitar)
Unless you still have the original sales receipt it is nearly impossible to know the exact manufacture date of a Carvin guitar. Based on style of the logo, headstock shape, hardware and pickups used you can get a reasonable estimate. I would say this guitar was made in the early 2000’s, probably between 2000 and 2005.
It is rare to find a twenty-year-old guitar in this good condition. I found one small indention on the front between and below the pickups. (see photos)
All Carvins are special order, so there is no standard configuration. This one was ordered with a flamed maple top and a birds eye maple fretboard. The abalone dots are a nice touch. It had a C22 neck pickup and an M22 SD bridge pickup. (Super Distortion). Theses were replaced by the Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups as mentioned above.
The body is not as rounded as a Les Paul but not as squared off as a Telecaster. It’s made from maple and alder like most Fenders, but it has Les Paul style controls and humbuckers. The 25” scale is between the Gibson 24.75 and the Fender 25.5. Where the Carvin is better than both is in the neck thru design with 24 frets.
Carvin has changed their name to Kiesel. Kiesel dropped the SC90 but they still offer a very similar guitar that they call the SCB. They no longer offer the Les Paul style controls, but that guitar with Fender style controls can be ordered brand new. With the same options as the SC90 in this listing that guitar would cost $2400.
