This guitar – this truly stunning Epiphone Les Paul 56 Gold Top Black – is black. Yes, the ’56 model was actually available in black, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. Instead of the classic transparent back, the mahogany body is finished in solid black, giving it a very distinctive, almost elegant look.
The condition is mint with only light signs of use. It’s from 2014 and was built at the Qingdao factory in China. The neck on this ’56 edition is substantial – a true 50s neck that sits solidly in the hand and delivers exactly the kind of tone you’d expect.
The Epiphone P90s sing beautifully and, in my opinion, don’t need any upgrading – as is the case with most good Epiphone P90s. What really matters here is proper height adjustment: the distance to the strings makes all the difference. The screw on the B-string should be set a little deeper – that’s where the tone lands perfectly between a humbucker and a single coil: fat, open, and direct.
Here you’re getting a truly beautiful and very good guitar that doesn’t have to hide behind the original USA models in any way.
The frets have been leveled, everything is perfectly set up – it plays exactly as you’d expect from a good ’56.
This Epiphone Les Paul 56 Gold Top Black is a no-compromise blues and rock machine with character and soul. Black, rare, and fitted with singing P90s – a guitar that immediately inspires confidence and lets you just play.
