This is true rock-and-roll memorabilia.

Offered here is a 1972 Marshall JMP Model 1987 50-watt head that was personally owned and used by Yngwie Malmsteen during the Odyssey and Eclipse era (1987-1990), and later by Dave Sabo of Skid Row

The amplifier was originally professionally modified to Yngwie Malmsteen’s personal specifications by the legendary Harry Kolbe, renowned for his work with elite players including Malmsteen, Al Di Meola, Allan Holdsworth, Billy Duffy, Page Hamilton, Steve Stevens, and Joe Satriani.

After the Kolbe modification, this amp became one of Yngwie Malmsteen’s primary heads, indicated by the “amp 002” marking on top, denoting it as an active-rotation and favored amplifier.

In 1990, Malmsteen traded the amplifier to its next high-profile owner: Dave Sabo of Skid Row

Provenance:

This amplifier is accompanied by exceptional, unbroken provenance, including:

  • A signed Letter of Authenticity from Dave Sabo, confirming ownership and transfer
  • A second provenance letter from Garrett Tung (Boingosaurus), who purchased the amp directly from Sabo in June 2013 and later sold it to me.

Tone & Condition:

Sonically, the amp is extraordinary: gainy, fluid, violin-like, and unlike any standard Plexi or metal-panel Marshall of the era. Despite owning numerous vintage Marshalls, this amplifier stands apart. The Kolbe mod is entirely unique in both execution and voicing.

The amp was recently serviced by Jay at Ant Farm Music (East Stroudsburg, PA), who noted its excellent overall health, original transformers, and commented he had never encountered a mod quite like this circuit modification, which struck him as unique.

This is not just a vintage Marshall—

it is a Malmsteen-owned, Dave Sabo–owned, artist-spec Harry Kolbe–modified amplifier with fully documented provenance.
