I rebuilt this amp from a completely busted up, almost wrecked Ampeg VT-40 chassis. It was seriously grimy and not working, definitely some kind of basement horror show. So I rebuilt it!

  • Built the headshell with fawn tolex, real leather corners & handle, wicker cane grill, and a repro 70s Ampeg badge. Painted the chassis where possible.
  • This amp classically has 2 inputs that are identical, so in order to expand the tonal palette, I revoiced one of the inputs to allow for more bass to come through, so you can easily use this amp with bass or guitar! (or keys or accordion or whatever).
  • Full recap of all electrolytics.
  • Added a bias adjustment pot so you can run the power tubes hotter or colder.
  • Added a NFB switch so you can run high negative feedback for cleaner sounds, low, or defeat the NFB altogether and make it roar even more.
  • Separate Jacks for 4 / 8 ohm output
  • replaced missing reverb tank
  • Everything is tested and working nicely. The EQ section on these amps is famously super flexible. QOTSA tones on tap!

I have a matching, oversized, sealed 1x12" cab that matches this beast, in another listing.
