Jose Ramirez “Guitarra de Estudio” 1984

This guitar was made in 1984 by unknown Spanish maker who was hired by Casa Ramirez, during the reign of Jose Ramirez III.  Over the years Ramirez Estudio guitars were made basing on the original blueprints by makers whose names have never been revealed. Also, many other makers working on 1a models remain anonymous until today. An assignment to make certain models was matter of hierarchy within Ramirez’s network. Less prominent makers were hired to make Estudio models until they qualified to make 1a models, and finally were able to establish their independent careers. Very likely some of these makers are quite famous today.

Just like all other Ramirez guitars I have ever experienced this guitar is a very powerful instrument. It offers deep cello like basses and strong glassy and sweet trebles, all notes with high level of clarity and separation. As it is true for 99% of classical guitars, moderately long sustain is the tradeoff for such super volume. While in 1984 it was sold  as “Estudio” guitar it is sounds better than many “hand made in Spain” “Concierto” models currently sold at very high prices.

All "curious enough to be educated" players, know that when contemporary Spanish makers are using 40+ years old woods to make a guitar, they price it at $10000 level. Elite luthiers charge more than that. Another important truth is that Ramirez’s Estudio guitars made in recent decades sound like toys if compared to that one made 4 decades ago. The same is true for currently distributed models "Guitarra del Tiempo" and "Sencillo" sold as "concert" guitar. If this "Sencillo" model was indeed a concert level instrument, other Spanish luthiers wouldn't be able to sell their high end models at 3 times higher prices, while many American luthiers would go out of business.

Even though there are few minor cosmetic flaws on the body, back of the neck and headstock of this guitar, there are no signs of this guitar being ever played. Its overall condition can be described as “near mint”. It looks and smells like it was made yesterday.

One of its important advantageous traits is its quite slim Spanish Cedar neck. This neck is slimmer than necks on 90% of other guitars from that era. Another important advantage is that its neck/body angle allows for much lower than standard action (if desired).

This guitar will be shipped in a used original Hard Shell Case in very good condition.

THE ONLY PURPOSE OF THIS CASE IS TO PROTECT THE GUITAR DURING SHIPMENT. I WILL NOT PROVIDE ITS DETAILED DESCRIPTION OR MAKE ADDITIONAL PICTURES, NOR I WILL ACCEPT ANY COMPLAINTS. IF YOU DON’T LIKE THIS CASE YOU WILL NEED TO BUY A DIFFERENT ONE.

WHEN YOU BUY ANY GUITAR, YOU MUST ANTICIPATE TAKING IT TO YOUR LOCAL GUITAR SHOP FOR FINAL ADJUSTMENTS CALLED “SETUP”. DEPENIDNG ON YOUR PLAYING TECHNIQUE, THIS SETUP ON USED GUITARS MAY INCLUDE NEW CUSTOM-MADE NUT AND SADDLE. IF YOU HEAR STRING BUZZ IT DOESN’T MEAN THAT GUITAR IS DEFECTIVE. IF YOU PLAY HARD ENOUGH ALL BASS STRINGS WILL BUZZ OVER THE FRETS, UNLESS THEY ARE SUSPENDED VERY FAR FROM THE FINGERBOARD. UNLESS YOU PLAY QUITE GENTLY, YOU CAN’T HAVE LOW ACTION AND NO BUZZES. KEEP IN MIND THAT CELLO-LIKE BASSES ON HIGH GRADE CLASSICAL GUITARS HAVE THEIR NATURAL “BUZZ”.

YES, I KNOW THAT “RAMIREZ” SOUNDS FAMILIAR TO YOU. BUT IF YOU ARE OPEN MINDED AND NOT AFRAID TO STEP INTO UNKNOWN, YOU WILL BE GEATLY REWARDED.
