The Dr. Z X-Ray 30w 1x12” Combo is a handwired boutique amplifier that marries vintage British chime with thick American-style overdrive, delivering stage-worthy tone with studio-ready control. Designed as a hybrid of two Dr. Z classics — the Stang Ray and DB4 — this amp captures the best of both: the articulate top-end sparkle and harmonic richness of the former, combined with the midrange growl and overdriven chewiness of the latter. Designed in part with modern country music legend Brad Paisley, the X-Ray is a tonal thoroughbred, refined yet ferocious.

While its sonic pedigree is undeniable, the X-Ray doesn’t require a degree in electrical engineering to operate. With just four knobs — Volume, Tone, Cut, and a post-phase inverter Master — the controls are intuitive, yet incredibly responsive. Whether you're looking for jangly cleans, rootsy crunch, or saturated rock tones, the X-Ray can deliver without breaking a sweat. A half-power switch lets you flip from 30 watts down to 15, adjusting the amp’s headroom and feel while keeping your tone intact. Plus, a tube-driven effects loop makes it pedalboard-friendly without compromising character.

Inside, this amp is built like a tank. It features NOS mil-spec tubes (including ruggedized 6n14n EL84-style power tubes and a 5879 pentode preamp tube), Heyboer transformers, and an aircraft-grade aluminum chassis. The included WGS Retro 30 speaker in the 1x12” combo cab brings out the amp’s balance and clarity, adding tight low-end and complex upper mids.
