This is a 1981 Tokai Silver Star, a vintage Japanese-made Stratocaster-style guitar from the early 1980s,

widely regarded as one of the golden ages of Japanese guitar manufacturing.

This model features the large headstock emblematic of the 1970s,

achieving the powerful visual presence and solid feel characteristic of late-70s Strat-style designs.

What truly sets this guitar apart is its special-order color: Lake Placid Blue.

This shade was not included in the Silver Star's standard catalog lineup,

being produced only as a special order. Consequently, original models in this color are extremely difficult to find compared to regular colors.

This is an ultra-rare Lake Placid Blue (LP) model, crafted as a special-color order back then.

The body is alder, the neck and fingerboard are one-piece maple, and the tuners and bridge are Tokai originals.

The pickups are Tokai gray bobbins, officially designated SS-AB×1 and SS-BW×2.

In recent years, John Mayer featured it in his Facebook profile photo, rapidly increasing its international recognition and making it an extremely popular model.

■ Our Selling Policy of Vintage Guitars

While this is our first listing on Reverb, we possess extensive experience in buying and selling vintage and used instruments within Japan.

All guitars are in our actual inventory and are personally inspected by the owner before listing.

Before shipping, each guitar undergoes the following basic maintenance and cleaning:

  • Polishing of the body, neck, and metal hardware
  • Neck adjustment & fret leveling (※Adjusted for Japan's climate)
  • Cleaning of the fingerboard, bridge, and frets
  • Verification of all basic electronic function

As the majority of instruments we offer are vintage guitars, additional setup or maintenance may be required to achieve optimal performance tailored to the player's preferences.

We recommend that final neck adjustments, intonation tuning, fret leveling, and other detailed setup work be performed by the new owner themselves or a local technician, taking into account individual playing style and local climate conditions.

By leaving the final setup preferences to the buyer, we are able to offer these instruments at fair and reasonable prices while maintaining the integrity and transparency of our listings.
