Sonor Steel 14x5" snare drum Artist Series Germany Black Nickel

Here's a fairly rare Sonor Artist Series steel, Made in Germany, 2000’s to early 10’s, 10-Lug , 14"x5" snare drum. Black nickel over chrome finish throughout (shell, hoops, lugs). All original except for heads and one tension rod (original tension rod was bent). The finish is partially rubbed off on many of the lugs (the worst example is shown in the last pic) -- this actually seems to be a common issue with these snares. The shell itself has a fantastic, mirror-like appearance. Equipped with the Tune-Safe lug system.

The main reason I’m selling is because I’ve found the shell diameter to be too small. I normally tune high, especially with this drum, but with the extra play between the head collar and bearing edge it takes more turns to get tuned up and seems to overstretch the heads. Sonor is known for having undersized shells so I suppose this is normal.

The drum is hefty, weighing 11.3 lbs. Sounds great!
