Not exactly the same as BBE 500 series production models — definitely has a unique capability.
It takes a clean signal and makes it larger than life.
Sounds incredible to use on toms, snare, chordal instruments like guitars or keys, provides huge sound.
Works a bit like izotope Imager plug-in but with that wider analog soundstage, not in how it works but in how it sounds.
Basically a kind of midrange compression.
