Francisco Gorgé 1905 Classical Guitar - Monumental sound from a traditional workshop in Alicante

This exceptional Francisco Gorgé 1905 classical guitar is an impressive testimony to Spanish guitar making at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Built by Francisco Gorgé Soler in Alicante, this instrument comes from a workshop that is deeply rooted in the Torres tradition and at the same time developed its very own, regionally influenced style.

Francisco Gorgé Soler (born in 1863) continued the craft of his father Ramon Gorgé Molina, who enjoyed a high reputation as a guitar maker, musician and instrument tuner and who even carried out repair work on an Antonio de Torres guitar. This close connection to musical practice is also reflected in Francisco Gorgé's instruments: they are not only remarkable in terms of craftsmanship, but above all have a convincing sound and are built to be played.

The Francisco Gorgé 1905 classical guitar on offer here clearly stands out from conventional concert guitars. It is larger in size and has an exceptionally large guitar body, which contributes significantly to its deep, voluminous and sustaining sound. The combination of a fine spruce top and cypress back and sides gives the guitar a clear response, warm bass and amazing projection.

Technical data and dimensions:

Scale length: 732 mm
Saddle width: 50 mm

Body dimensions:
Top width: 280 mm
Center width: 230 mm
Bottom width: 400 mm
Side depth: going from 110 mm to 130 mm
Body length: 560 mm

Thanks to these generous dimensions, the guitar develops an exceptionally deep, open and voluminous sound that clearly sets it apart from smaller instruments of this era. Despite its size, the guitar is very pleasant to play: the action is well adjusted, the neck is comfortable and the playability is remarkably good for an instrument that is over 100 years old.

The condition of the guitar is good for its age. It has been restored, existing cracks have been professionally repaired and the structural stability is intact. The restoration was carried out with respect for the original, so that the character, sound and historical substance have been preserved.

This Francisco Gorgé 1905 classical guitar is a rare, historically significant instrument from Alicante - ideal for players, collectors and lovers of early Spanish guitars who are looking for a big, deep sound and authentic craftsmanship.
