The Rose Morris 1997 is Rickenbacker’s mid-60s UK export version of the 330S, built for the London distributor Rose, Morris & Co. and sold under Rose Morris’ own model-number system rather than Rickenbacker’s domestic names. The easiest identifier is the traditional unbound f-hole, specified for the UK market instead of the usual Rickenbacker “slash” sound hole.
Production was limited to a short mid-60s window, and the entire Rose Morris export series made up only a small fraction of Rickenbacker output in period, which is why original UK-spec examples are very hard to find today, and therefore extremely collectable.
The model is also famous for its visibility in the first wave of British rock. Rose Morris Rickenbackers are closely associated with the British Invasion era, and Pete Townshend is documented using a Rose Morris 1997 in the 1960s.
This 1964 example is one of the most collectable variants: slim, narrow early-style neck feel, two “toaster” pickups, and the correct f-hole export look. It has been refretted with medium jumbo frets and plays great. It has standard playwear and finish wear through the back of the neck in the cowboy chord area. The original bridge and Accent vibrato assembly has been removed and a different bridge is fitted, otherwise it is all original. Weight is 3000g. Includes a newer Rickenbacker case.
