Recording King RPH-R2-MBK – Dirty 30s Single-O Resonator
The Recording King RPH-R2-MBK is a wooden resonator guitar in Single-O format from the Dirty 30s series. This model delivers a raw, traditional resonator sound in a compact body, combined with a clean and understated Matte Black finish that emphasizes its utilitarian, roots-driven character.
General description
The guitar is built with a spruce top and White Wood sides and back, a classic tonewood combination that produces a clear, focused sound with strong midrange projection. At its core is a hand-spun 9.5″ Recording King cone, mounted in a pedestal-style soundwell, which enhances volume, punch, and the distinctive metallic resonance associated with vintage resonator instruments.
The biscuit bridge with an ebony/maple saddle provides a fast, direct attack and efficient energy transfer to the cone. The neck is made of nato and shaped in a Contemporary C profile, paired with an ovangkol fingerboard that offers a smooth and stable playing surface. The Matte Black finish gives the instrument a timeless, no-nonsense appearance that fits perfectly within blues and roots traditions.
Playing experience
The Single-O body makes the RPH-R2-MBK lighter and more compact than larger resonator guitars, resulting in excellent comfort during extended playing sessions. Tonally, the guitar is dry, punchy, and mid-forward, making it especially suitable for slide guitar, fingerstyle blues, and traditional roots music. As a purely acoustic resonator without electronics, it delivers an unfiltered, authentic resonator response.
