The Gates Gatesway is a classic and robust audio console from the mid-20th century, widely used in radio broadcasting for its solid-state or vacuum tube construction, flexible inputs, and reliable performance. It is a highly regarded piece of vintage gear, often sought after for its unique tone in recording studios today. Key Product DetailsThe Gatesway console was primarily available in monophonic models such as the Gatesway 80 (solid-state) and the original Gatesway (tube-based), with the company later producing dual-channel and stereo versions like the Gatesway II and Dualux

  • Construction: Known for its sturdy construction, the console uses high-quality components, including vacuum tubes in earlier models (like 5879, 12AU7, EL84) and silicon transistors in later solid-state versions.
  • Mixing Channels: It features eight "ladder-type" mixing channels, with options to add a ninth in place of the monitor control.
  • Inputs: The console is versatile, accommodating a wide range of inputs, including:
    • Microphones: Typically five or six inputs, expandable to 15 using utility keys.
    • Turntables/Tapes: Four turntable and four tape (cartridge or reel-to-reel) inputs.
    • Other: Multiple remote lines and network inputs.
  • Features:
    • Inbuilt Cue/Intercom: A comprehensive cue-intercom system is a standard feature, with talk-back functions to different studio locations.
    • Amplification: Includes a program amplifier and a monitor amplifier, with some models featuring a 10-watt ultra-linear amplifier.
    • Switching: Uses numerous key switches (sometimes up to 27 keys for 52 functions) for source selection and routing to program, monitor, or cue amplifiers.
    • Power Supply: Relies on a fully regulated power supply, often external to the main console chassis.

There is some surface rust, and some wear and tear as expected. This unit served on the air-in working condition until 1993. I personally did a radio shift on this console a week before it was removed from service.

NOTE: The rack mount power supply got tossed before I was able to save the console. RACK MOUNTED PORTION IS NOT INCLUDED.

This unit is too large and heavy to ship. Willing to deliver to a location within 90 minutes of 07456 (Northern NJ), or meet you at such a distance. If you can arrange a freight company to bring a wood crate with packing materials to pick up and deliver to you, such an arrangment can me made. Be sure to buy insurance if you wish to go that route.
