Is that a Speed Demon in your pocket or...

Here's something you don't see everyday. It's an American Kay Speed Demon from, we are guessing, mid to late sixties. The earlier ones had speed bump pickups. It's in the classic, natural finish fire engine red. It looks to be complete and original aside from a missing bottom stap peg. The body is in nice condition with only a few nicks and scratches and a small chip in the binding. The neck is straight and it looks as if it has had very little play over the years. Action and frets are good. You can see the side seams but this is a normal building quirk in Speed Demons. It's dual pickup. Electronics are good but the neck is weak and may need to be rewound. Very cool indeed.

The Kay Speed Demon is a classic, vintage semi-hollowbody electric guitar from the 1960s, known for its unique, punchy single-coil tones, often featuring three pickups, individual controls, and a distinctive look with f-holes and a Florentine cutaway, appealing to collectors and players seeking its distinct bluesy/rock sounds. Made by the prominent Kay Musical Instrument Company, these guitars are valued for their distinct sonic character, vintage vibe, and surprisingly capable playability, though they can vary in features.
