This was my film production starter kit and I am upgrading to another microphone. All you need is a recorder (with phantom power), XLR cable, and optional boom pole.

A RODE NTG3 (black) and matching Rycote Nanoshield Windshield Kit (NS4-DB). Both were used lightly on one film production and well cared for in their respective cases when not in use. No smoke; low humidity.

I always save all the original packaging and accessories. The Nanoshield box is fairly primitive, so I will add bubble wrap, etc. in the box to further protect in shipping.

I originally used a Rycote Cyclone windshield but ended up with the Nanoshield for three reasons: 1) it's much smaller, 2) it comes with a protective case (many windshields do not), and 3) I love the handle and Rycote quick release system. With an additional Rycote quick release (PCS), you can switch from the handle to a boom pole or stand in seconds.

The cost of Rycote products dropped significantly over the last month (?) and my understanding is that some products may be discontinued. The most comparable alternative is the Radius Mini-Alto windshield, which is fantastic—the only cons are the lack of case and quick release system (which is why I'm ordering a new Rycote).
