2001 Höfner Jazzica Custom Electric/Acoustic Archtop w/Floating PUP, Cutaway, Hardshell Case
Nut Width: 1 3/4" (45mm); Weight: 6 lbs. 6 Oz.; Original Höfner Floating PUP
Here is a very nice 2001 Höfner Jazzica archtop guitar, with a floating humbucker pickup, cutaway, and the original hardshell case. The guitars are highly prized for their excellent acoustic volume, while also sounding great when amplified. The guitar has some very unusual design features -- like a body that tapers 2 inches from the neck joint to the tail; a single, parallel, bass-side bar brace; and a floating HB pickup suspended above the top. Even though the pickup ring looks like it is mounted to the body, it is actually attached to the neck, with no cutout made to the spruce top, but just a small hole for the pickup cable. The label is signed by Hubert Kaa, who did the assembly, final setup and fretwork. Before retiring around 2010, he had worked at Höfner for 40 years. This is a very high-quality, professional guitar made by expert German craftsmanship, and it is quite evident in the playability, design and construction, but most importantly, in the magnificent sound.
While the guitar is in very good condition, it does have several finish cracks on the top, back, and sides. This usually is a result of a drastic change in temperature, but the overall build quality and sound quality remain unaffected. The Medium C-Profile neck is quite comfortable to play, and has very good action, and plenty of fret life remaining. The guitar does not have a pickguard, and the original knobs have been changed out to Gibson Speed Knobs. The highlight of the guitar, though, is the sound. The floating pup with the one-brace design manages to get a beautifully big acoustic sound, and meanwhile the amplified sound is especially pleasing and full, with the custom Höfner HB pickup. See the attached video to hear a different 2001 Jazzica Custom in action. These guitars are no longer in production and are getting harder to find, so here is a great opportunity to pick up a fantastic sounding Höfner archtop at a relatively modest price.
