Silvertone Aristocrat 1950’s Big Archtop Guitar
This is a guitar player’s instrument. A 1950’s 17” archtop guitar made by Kay and sold under the Silvertone label with mother of pearl fretboard inlays, binding around the front & back, neck, and headstock. The soundboard is spruce, the neck is maple, and the back and sides appear to be lamented maple with a flame maple surface on the back. The guitar comes with a gig bag.
Repairs:
- Neck was reset by Danny’s Guitar Shop, Narberth, PA
- Back was removed and soundbars were reglued
- There was a long, deep crack on the left side soundboard that was filled with wood
- Added hardware: Tailpiece, rosewood/bone bridge, antique white pickguard, vintage style tuners, and a Tusq nut.
- Journey Soundboard pickup with input jack tailpin, and no pre-amp
- The body was oversprayed with nitrocellulous lacquer
Condition: Excellent playing guitar with a level neck. The neck has stain missing from years of playing, but there are no apparent cracks. This jumbo sized guitar has a big sound and projects well. The Journey internal soundboard pickup adds to the versatility of this instrument.
