Beautiful guitar! It’s a player—no shortage of cosmetic wear with this one. There are scratches, scuffs, dings, dents, tarnishing, checking and lacquer cracks throughout. There is a little strip of binding missing on the bass-side of the neck, just beside the nut. There is a surface crack in the top, near the bass-side f-hole. This appears to be stable but may call for repairs at some point down the line. The tuners have been swapped for some nice Grovers. Originals not included. Overall, this guitar has a fair amount of cosmetic wear but that doesn’t stop it from playing and sounding absolutely gorgeous.
Comes with hardshell case and pick guard.
From John -
"This guitar originally belonged to a teenage friend of mine named Jack Sexson. His dad bought it for him on his 16th birthday. When we were 17 and I was planning my move to Nashville, he helped me make some demos of my songs. He had 2 Teac 2track tape machines. I went about creating my opus ala Stevie wonder. I played all the instruments and we would bounce back and forth between the two machines. I loved this Gibson of his and he let me play it on these demos. Forward to Arriving in Nashville in 1970 and playing the tapes for various publishing companies. I kept striking out playing the demos so, at my last stop( Tree Publishing) I told the guy I didn’t have any demos and I would just have to sing and play the songs for him( on my Gibson Hummingbird, subsequently stolen!) they agreed to sign me as a writer for the princely sum of 25$ a week! I have no idea what happened to those demo tapes……. I finally talked my friend Jack ( by then, my brother in law) into selling me this beautiful guitar at some point in the late 90’s- early two thousands, along with an old National steel body from the 30’s. I have played them both over the years at home. I know I’ve written songs with the Gibson but I’m not remembering which one or ones. Jack was a wonderful man and husband to my younger sister for 49 years until his passing in 2023. I want to sell this guitar and give the proceeds to my sister who is a retired school teacher."
