I'm pleased as punch with this unlabeled French Strad copy violin made in the early part of the 20th century. There is no label but the violin has all the hallmarks of a good French workshop student instrument. It is well made with inlaid purfling, full lining, and four corner blocking (see borescope photos). There is a bit of dark spalting in the back maple that I photographed, spalt lines are a natural characteristic of the wood and not a crack repair. There are three small stable crack repairs in the top of the 1-3" variety (two near the saddle and one near the neck). They were successfully repaired externally with hot hide glue/clamps and touch up varnish to protect the repairs. The repairs are visible but not distracting in my opinion. I saved the original good rosewood(?) fingerboard that needed to be re-glued to the neck and re-dressed. The fittings are all new rosewood with brass accents and the bridge is a vintage fine maple that I fitted to the instrument. There is a very small pin head chip in one of the bridge feet that doesn't affect anything but I mention it for accuracy. The violin is paired with a new student-grade brazilwood bow and a quality Chinese composite case with hygrometer.

I chose Warchal Ametyst strings which are now my go to string for intermediate level instruments. This violins playing test did not disappoint. Her voice is highly resonant and balanced across all strings with good power and bow response. This violin will reward and advancing student player for their efforts. Since tone evaluation is subjective, please listen to the sound sample video and judge for yourself.

At this price point, you could purchase a new and decent-quality Chinese or Romanian workshop instrument. There's nothing wrong with that choice. I humbly offer some alternatives if you're looking for something unique that can only be found in a vintage instrument of quality craftsmanship for your student violinist.

I am a lifelong woodworker from a family of musicians (yep, that's my son playing in the video:) with a love for these old instruments. I am not a storefront, and I do not charge high storefront prices for my work. As such, I do not wish to enter into returns, so please view the high-resolution photos carefully, ask questions, and watch/listen to the video before purchasing. I only sell and ship to the lower 48 states.

*Sorry, I do not sell to shops. If you represent a shop or are a re-seller looking to flip this violin, please move on.

**Sorry, there is no international shipping; ships only to the lower 48 states.

***A note about tariffs, this is not a political statement. Tariffs are real and I am currently charged a 15% tax for European goods purchases. As I buy instruments primarily from Europe, tariffs have impacted my expenses.
