Masterworks Folk/OM Cutaway — Pacific Redwood & East Indian Rosewood
Cedar's warmth, spruce's clarity — Pacific Northwestern redwood sits beautifully between the two. Pair that rare top wood with a Yairi-built Folk/OM body, a cutaway for upper-fret reach, and the LR Baggs Hi-Fi system, and you have a guitar that performs as brilliantly on stage as it does in a living room.
The wood that defines itOld-growth California redwood is one of the more uncommon choices in fine lutherie — and one of the most rewarding. It shares cedar's natural warmth and ease of response, making it exceptionally fingerpicker-friendly, but with a brightness and articulation that cedar can't quite match. The result is a tonal character that feels both intimate and present: rich in the low mids, clear through the treble strings, and deeply responsive to even the softest touch. Paired with solid East Indian rosewood back and sides — known for its complex overtones and sustain — the FYM74CE has a full, balanced voice that suits everything from delicate solo fingerstyle to open-chord strumming.
"Redwood asks nothing of you. It responds immediately, generously — a top wood that meets you wherever you are as a player."
Built for the whole fretboardThe single-cutaway body isn't just a visual detail — it's an invitation. Where a standard Folk/OM body closes off access above the 12th fret, the FYM74CE's sculpted cutaway opens the upper register completely. Whether you're reaching for a melodic run on the high strings or exploring chord voicings above the 14th fret, the cutaway puts the entire neck at your disposal without compromising the body's acoustic resonance.
Inside, Yairi's master luthiers have hand-carved an FST6 forward-shifted asymmetric bracing pattern — lighter than its predecessor but structurally stronger, it lets the redwood top vibrate more freely while maintaining tonal focus across the full dynamic range. The ebony Direct Coupled bridge keeps the strings in close contact with the top, maximizing sustain and volume while reducing long-term wear.
Stage-ready, right out of the caseThe LR Baggs Hi-Fi pickup system is one of the most transparent acoustic pickups available — engineered to capture the natural character of the instrument rather than impose an amplified sound over it. What you hear acoustically translates faithfully through a PA or amplifier, preserving the redwood's warmth and the rosewood's depth without the harsh peaks or unnatural compression that plague lesser electronics. For performers, it's the difference between sounding like yourself on stage and sounding like a guitar plugged into a box.
