C. F. Martin Style 1-T Model Tenor Ukulele, c. 1960, made in Nazareth, PA, natural lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, tweed hard shell case.

This is a nice example of one of our more requested instruments: the Martin Tenor Ukulele. Compared to the common soprano size the larger body and longer, slimmer neck give a deeper, richer tone to the instrument. As a bonus the extended fingerboard offers a lot more room for more advanced modern uke stylings! This one likely dates the early 1960s, an earlier example with the then-new 14-fret neck joint. Other typical features for the time include (originally) Champion tuning pegs with black buttons, a "C.F. Martin & Co." gold decal on the headstock face and tortoise celluloid binding on the body. This one has been upgraded with excellent geared tuners so is easier to keep in tune, it is a really good-sounding instrument with a warm mellow tone and plenty of volume.

Overall length is 25 1/2 in. (64.8 cm.), 9 in. (22.9 cm.) width, and 2 3/4 in. (7 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 17 in. (432 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/8 in. (35 mm.).

This is a relatively clean uke overall, showing some light checking to the finish and small dings, scratches and dents (mostly to the back) but no heavy finish wear. The back has a small punched-in spot cleanly repaired, sealed and touched up but visible. There are also a couple of grain checks to the back that do not go through to the interior. The original non-geared friction tuners were replaced with small-bore modern geared tuners that are not obtrusive and add only minimal weight to the headstock; the old pegs are preserved in the case pocket. The instrument remains otherwise original and a solid player with a big sound, resting in a high-grade modern HSC. Overall Excellent - Condition.
