The Two Notes Audio Engineering Torpedo Captor 8 ohm is a compact reactive load box, attenuator, DI box, and analog speaker simulator designed for using tube amplifiers for quiet practice, direct recording, and live performances. It handles up to 100 watts RMS and provides an 8-ohm impedance load. The Torpedo Captor allows musicians to push their tube amps to the sweet spot (power tube saturation) without the overwhelming volume, capturing rich tone for direct recording without needing to mic a speaker cabinet. It provides a true reactive load to the amp's speaker output, simulating the complex impedance of a real speaker to preserve the feel and dynamics of your amplifier's tone. A fixed -20dB attenuation option is available, allowing you to run your amp louder while significantly reducing the volume sent to a physical speaker cabinet, suitable for home use or controlling stage volume. It also features a balanced XLR active DI output and a balanced line output (TRS) for sending your signal directly to a PA system, mixer, or audio interface. The DI output can be used with or without the analog speaker simulation engaged. Also includes built-in all-analog speaker simulation (based on a Marshall 4x12 with a Shure SM57 mic for guitar and an Ampeg 8x10 with a Neumann U87 mic for bass) for immediate, standalone use without a computer. The core load box and attenuation functions are passive and do not require external power. A 9-24V DC power supply (sold separately) or 48V phantom power via the XLR out is only needed to use the active DI and speaker simulation features.
