The BOSS CS-2 Compression Sustainer is a discontinued vintage analog effects pedal known for its warm, smooth, and natural compression. It evens out playing dynamics, boosts quieter signals, and provides a long, musical sustain for both guitar and bass. 

Key Features and Description

• Function: The pedal functions as a compressor and a sustainer. It works by compressing high-input signals and boosting low-input signals to create a more balanced, even output. This process enhances the clarity and definition of individual notes and makes notes ring out longer (sustain).
• Analog Circuitry: Produced from 1981 to 1986, the CS-2 is an analog pedal utilizing a Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA), specifically the BA662a or Roland DBX 1252D chip. This circuitry is praised for its organic, musical feel and a distinct warm character, often preferred over the more transparent, later CS-3 model.
• Tone: The CS-2 adds a smooth, warm character to the sound, making it a favorite for styles like blues, jazz fusion, country, and classic rock. It has a faster attack compared to its predecessor, the CS-1.
• Controls: The pedal features a simple three-knob interface for shaping the effect:
• • Level: Adjusts the overall output volume.
  • Attack: Controls how quickly the compression engages after a note is played, allowing initial pick dynamics to come through crisply or to be clamped down quickly for a "squashed" sound.
