I bought this in Sept 2009 from Music guy Mic's Room from Mic. At the time I was told it was rare because KoAloha founder Alvin "Pops" Okami made only a few and this has the crown underneath the bridge setup. I have kept this in perfect condition lightly played and a joy when played as the sound is outstanding. The color is to me is a honey colored gloss and the wood is made from solid Hawaiian koa.
I am including a hard shell case that I bought when I purchased the ukulele, which cost me an extra $100 in 2009.
The KoAloha Sceptre is a unique, limited-production ukulele known for its distinctive, non-traditional body shape and vibrant sound. It was originally conceived by KoAloha founder Alvin "Pops" Okami as a "vision" rather than a standard design process, and the instrument's background color is typically the natural hue of the solid Hawaiian koa wood from which it is crafted. History and Background
- Origin as a Vision: The Sceptre was not a design developed in a boardroom; rather, its unique shape came to Alvin Okami in a vision, making it one of KoAloha's most creative and signature models.
- Limited/Custom Production: Sceptres are often produced in limited runs or as custom, one-of-a-kind instruments made by Pops himself. This makes each one a rare collector's item and a piece of the company's history.
- Signature Sound: Despite its unusual shape, the Sceptre is known for having a "huge" and vibrant sound with a quick, bright attack and full tone, characteristic of all KoAloha instruments.
- Unique Features: The instrument often features a distinctive seven-point crown shape for both the headstock and the tail of the body, distinguishing it visually from traditional ukuleles.
Color and MaterialsThe "background color" of the Sceptre is the natural finish of the materials used in its construction.
- Primary Material: The Sceptre is almost exclusively made from solid Hawaiian koa, a tonewood that produces a natural harmony of warmth and brightness in sound.
- Natural Koa Color: The color is therefore the rich, natural brown of the koa wood, often with a beautiful, elegant grain texture that is highlighted by a high-gloss or satin finish.
