This rare amp is dated from June of 1955 and is a good example of the earliest version of Fender's Tremolux line of amplifiers. The updated power cord and filter caps, along with the replacement leather handle, are the only modifications to this otherwise all original amplifier. Please see the pictures to understand the condition. I also go into some detail in the text below.

The Fender Tremolux is the first Fender amplifier with the tremolo feature. This 1955 Fender Tremolux is from the first batch (purchase order) of this model made (see 'Fender the Inside Story' by Forest White p.90 third paragraph). This is the Small Box version, made at the same time as the Small Box Deluxe. By late 1955 the Tremolux was built with a larger cabinet (same size as the Pro), while the Deluxe was enlarged to this size (the old Tremolux) cabinet. The date code of EF translate to June of 1955. The EF is hard to make out in the picture of the label, but the EF can also be seen stamped on the inside of the chassis next to the large power supply caps. The serial number 00136 is visible on both the label and the bottom of the chassis where it was usually stamped in the mid 50's. The original Jensen P12Q is coded 220436, indicating the 36th week of 1954. I've seen at least four other listings over the years of 1955 Tremolux amps with this date code P12Q in them.

This amp is completely all original save for three safety and maintanence upgrades. First, the power cord has been upgraded to a modern 3-prong type for proper grounding and safety; second, the power caps have been replaced for proper maintenance, and third, the leather handle (the handle hardware is original) is a replacement as the old leather handles on these commonly deteriorates. This work was done twenty-four years ago, and the amp has seen only studio use since then. The tubes are classic American made including two 6V6's from RCA as well as two RCA 12AX7's. The first pre-amp tube is a 12AY7 made by General Electric. The Triad 8160 power transformer, which is a little bigger and more powerful than a Tweed Deluxe's, was used throughout the run of the Tweed Tremolux, and was built to accommodate the 5U4 rectifier.

I've posted many pictures to show the condition of the tweed covering. While it is not 'like new' it is also not suffering any heavy damage. It is showing its age nicely! The tone of the amp is strong and bold, and the tremolo is deep and slow. Except as noted in the second paragraph, this amplifier is all original. An aftermarket cover is included in the sale . I'm happy to answer questions and send out more pics (as Reverb limits pictures to 25 per listing), let me know what you need. Thank you.
