When I found this mandolin it was in pretty deplorable condition. It had a sunburst finish which needed to be removed. When I stripped it I found it was made of beautiful Birdseye maple so I finished it and clear glosslacquer. The neck was loose so I sent it to a luthier in Canada who put a tiger maple wide neck on for me. I finished the pig head in Ebony. I used Rubener tuners. I never learned how to play. Word to the warning, my wife and I both smoke in the house and once I sold her an instrument and had to accept it back because the gentleman was allergic to cigarette smoke. I actually think he just had buyer's remorse but if that's an issue for you don't buy this instrument.
