The Norns Shield acts as a platform for a wide range of sound manipulation tasks through a library of community-developed scripts written in Lua and audio engines in SuperCollider. Its functions can include:
- Synthesizer and polysynth
- Sampler and sample-cutter
- Algorithmic drum machine and polyphasic sequencer
- Looper (asynchronous) and granulator
- Effects unit (built-in mixer, reverb, and compressor)
- MIDI tool and interface for other devices like the Monome Grid or Arc controllers
This includes a Raspberry Pi 3 B with a high quality, high speed 32GB MicroSD containing the latest Norns OS preloaded, black bead-blasted resin case, white display, white buttons, Solid black aluminium knobs, high resolution performance-grade smooth encoders, water-cut powder-coated aluminum faceplate and a USB Power lead.
Grids for Norns and Max/MSP
An open, tactile instrument that allows the user to imagine and define its function. The monome grid by default does nothing. Connected to a computer or module, interaction is determined by the chosen application: sequencer, sample cutter, tone map, polyrhythm machine.
Based on the Neotrellis/M0 codebase this comes in a CNC-machined screwless resin enclosure and steel (for strength and rigidity) subframe with brushed raw aluminum top.
