Gibson Custom Shop J2000 2005 - Natural

For your consideration is an excellent example of the Gibson Custom Shop J 2000 manufactured in 2005. Spectacular tone, loud with great projection and dynamic range and excellent note separation.This model was designed and supervised by legendary Gibson custom shop chief luthier, Ren Ferguson. It has two lacquer checks on the top below the bridge on the second and fourth strings. They are lacquer checks only and do not go into the wood. In an abundance of caution, the previous owner had a master luthier install some cleats on the inside below the location of the lacquer checks. There is a lacquer scratch in the finish on the bottom that does not go into the wood. Otherwise it is in pristine condition. it has a factory pickup installed. See last three photos for detailed specifications. The MSRP ON THIS GUITAR WHEN ISSUED IN 2005 WAS $8,500. The guitar comes with the original Gibson Custom Shop case.

The J-2000 is a very rare, high-end Gibson custom/limited model from the early 1990s, designed by Ren Ferguson. It’s not a standard production guitar; it was built in tiny numbers and often used exotic woods, heavy abalone, and leaf inlays, making it feel more like a boutique art-piece version of the J-200 concept.

It’s often associated with a J-180-style body shape and rosewood back and sides, especially Mystic rosewood. Tonally, it’s known for deep lows, rich overtones, strong sustain, and a lush, piano-like quality rather than the drier punch of a maple J-200.

Because of its rarity and ornate build, it doesn’t price like a normal Gibson acoustic. In today’s market, examples often land around $5,000 to $9,000+ depending on condition, originality, and how elaborate the specs are. This is a bargain price.
