A true piece of Fender history — this 1959 Fender Vibrasonic is an extremely early prototype example, distinguished by its rare metal control knobs and transitional design features. As Fender’s first brownface amp and the flagship of its new professional line, the Vibrasonic set the standard for the high-powered, articulate clean tones that would define the 1960s.
This amp is all original except for replaced electrolytic capacitors and a small amount of associated wiring in that area, done cleanly and for safe operation. The grill cloth also appears to be non original as there is more material overlap on the back than is typical for fender. It presents very original and may even be original material as it looks like a perfect gold stripe grille. Otherwise, it retains its original JBL D130 speaker, transformers, cabinet, and hardware. The brown tolex and early style grille cloth show little wear and remain in solid shape. A few of the knobs have some marks in them.
Sonically, this Vibrasonic delivers everything you could hope for — big, glassy cleans, rich low-end depth, and the unmistakable chime of the D130. The tremolo is lush and smooth, and the amp retains remarkable clarity even at higher volumes.
As one of the earliest Vibrasonics ever produced — and with its unique metal-knob configuration — this amp occupies a special place in Fender’s evolution, bridging the gap between the tweed and brownface eras.
Highlights:
- 1959 Fender Vibrasonic – Prototype model
