Fender Mustang Char Signature (MG66) – MADE IN JAPAN 2023 – Olympic White
Serial: JD23006234
This is a Japan Domestic Market Fender Mustang – the JD prefix confirms it was built specifically for the Japanese market (not export), and this one was brought in directly from Tokyo. Excellent overall condition with only very minimal signs of natural play. No chips or cracks in the finish. The frets are clean, polished, and have essentially full life, and the fingerboard is in beautiful shape.
This is the Char Signature Mustang model, which has its own unique features compared to the Traditional 60s MG66 reissue. Instead of the vintage-style Mustang vibrato, it comes equipped with a synchronized Strat-style tremolo and a rear cavity for the tremolo springs, a design choice specific to this signature model. It plays and feels like a Mustang but delivers the familiar, smooth Strat-style trem response.
Another difference from a traditional Mustang is the pickup switching: instead of the typical dual slider switches, this model uses a standard 3-position selector switch. Together with the Strat-style tremolo, it makes the guitar more straightforward and familiar to players coming from Strat-style controls while still keeping the Mustang character.
Tonally, this guitar really shines. On cleans it has that bright, slightly scooped Mustang chime, while the synchronized trem and pickup voicing give it a bit more immediacy and definition. On overdrive it comes alive with a gritty, broken-up character that drops you straight into that classic 90s alt / indie / grunge territory, raw, direct, and very responsive to your right hand dynamics.
The instrument is fully set up, intonated, and ready to play right away.
The following work has been done: full cleaning, lemon oil fretboard treatment, fret polishing and string height setup (2.3 mm at the 12th fret on the low E string), pickup height adjusted for balance and clarity, and a fresh set of D'Addario XL 10/46 strings installed.
Epic Axes is a musician-driven showroom in Los Angeles. Each guitar is personally selected, inspected, and tested to ensure top performance - only instruments we would play ourselves become part of our collection.
