Owner selling an excellent condition Vintage RCA BA6A/C Mono Tube Compressor/Limiter in the MI-11599-B physical rack assembly. The first models of the BA6C was the BA6A/BA6B. This RCA is in perfect working condition and sounds amazing! Purchased from Vintage King in 2013 and is maintained in a smoke free recording studio location. Includes original RCA Instruction Manual.

The BA6A/C was first created in 1951 as a broadcasting limiter for radio stations. It most famously became Jimmy Page’s go-to limiter for recording acoustic guitars for Led Zeppelin III and subsequent albums. Dave Gilmour was also another prominent fan of this beautiful limiter. The BA6C uses the famous 6386 tube in a variable-MU design. 

The BA6A/C works as an electronic mechanism of limiting peaks in audio signals to a preset level to prevent over modulation and overloading with distortion and channel interference. It also allows the system to perform as close to maximum output as possible. The BA6A/C is built on a plug-in chassis for shelf mounting and can be easily detached for inspection and repairs. The BA6A/C uses nine tubes, including the rectifier and voltage regulator. All of it’s controls, tubes, and plug-in capacitors are reachable from the front.

This balanced limiter uses high-quality components and will add a layer of grit, depth, and thickness to your recordings. The BA6A/C is known for its robust tone and slower release character and can work beautifully on some tracks for bass, snare, guitars and other instruments where you are looking for something 'special' to fatten things up. More of a compressor than a limiter, the BA6A/C has a unique character that has yet to be replicated in any plug-in. Thick, fat and gluey sounding, this compressor will add some depth and funk to the flat picture of Pro Tools. Far too many of these went into the dumpster when the age of transistors arrived.
