For sale: one of my two RCA 77's--this one is a museum quality RCA 77-D in MINT condition. Was serviced by ENAK (the best ribbon repair shop using NOS parts) a few years ago and has seen very light use in my smoke free, pet free home studio. It's in perfect condition and sounds incredible. Only selling because I have two of these and really only need one and want the cash to pick up another item.
This RCA 77-D has a super lush, warm and forgiving sound to it. I mainly recorded horns with it but it works great on vocals, drums, etc. It takes EQ like a champ so you can really shape this any way you want. This is one of those IFYKYK audio tools. Pure magic.
Some info on the microphone from ze web: The RCA 77-D was released in 1945 and remained in production until 1955, when it was succeeded by the 77-DX model. It was used by countless legendary broadcasters and recording artists, including Edward R. Murrow, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra. Its rich, smooth sound made it a staple for vocals, horns, guitars, and drum overheads in professional studios.
