Lafayette PA-409/99-45460 Dual Impedance 60s, W/Cable Tested

Lafayette model 99-45460 dynamic microphone from the 1960's or early 70's. It was also sold as the model PA-409 wi slightly different cosmetics.  This was an affordable Japanese entry-level model and was a general purpose microphone with dual impedance settings though currently set at high impedance. It comes with the original cable shown.

 This all metal design with satin chrome finish has a classic mid-century vibe. The style is similar to the popular Electro-Voice 664 microphone that many Japanese microphone companies tried to copy. Lafayette was a popular Japanese brand that did the same. This particular mic was also sold under the Arista, Aiwa and Calrad name. The PA-409 is an omnidirectional dynamic mic which picks up a bit more sound from the sides then the Electro-Voice, but with less proximity effect. 

 The mic has a Hi Z & Lo Z option but that depends on how you wire the mics cable on the 4 pin connector and this is set at Hi Z; you can plug it directly into your tweed amp for harp work.

 The mic itself is gorgeous There is scattered minor pitting in the main casting. See the photos. It still has the original factory cable , with a 4-pin Amphenol connector and a standard male 1/4 inch TS phono plug. We re-soldered both of the plugs at the cable ends for a solid connection. We also re-foamed the capsule. We tested it and it works great!
