Gibson / 1936 Roy Smeck Radio Grande Conversion
"The Signature Model of Roy Smeck, Known as the Magician of Strings"
Roy Smeck is a master of a variety of stringed instruments, including banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and guitar.
The Radio Grande features a square-shouldered body and a 12-fret joint.
This guitar was produced over a five-year period, from 1934 to 1939, and is a reflection of Roy's dedication to playing Hawaiian, jazz, and blues music.
Round Shoulders with 12-fret Joint
The round-shouldered body, reminiscent of a J-45, is crafted from spruce. This nearly 90-year-old guitar exudes a dignified look with scratches, dents, and weather-checking, evidence of countless performances.
The pickguard features a firestripe pattern.
The sides and back are made of beautiful straight-grained rosewood.
The fingerboard is made of rosewood, and the nut width is 47mm.
The inlays are shaped like petals.
The neck is made of mahogany and has a solid thickness.
However, at 47mm wide, it's not difficult to play and provides comfortable playability.
There is no adjustable truss rod.
The bridge is a rosewood reclangular bridge with short saddles.
The headstock features a white ink Gibson script logo, along with the words Roy & Smeck and Radio Grande.
Weathering and some paint peeling give this guitar a sophisticated look.
The guitar is equipped with Grover open-back tuners.
Although tuning may feel more resistant over time, this does not affect playability.
This guitar features a crisp, lively sound that can be felt when you stroke it, and the vibrations emitted from the body are also a unique feature of this instrument.
Please give it a try.
