Alesis/GrooveTubes AM62 Multi-pattern Tube Microphone - Rare!

The Alesis / GrooveTubes AM62 is a large diaphragm condenser tube microphone featuring four selectable polar patterns: cardioid, hypercardioid, omni, and figure 8. It originally retailed for $1299!

This microphone has been tested and it sounds as stunning as it looks! The AM62 was initially a “sleeper mic” that has now been gaining a newfound notoriety as one of the best budget tube microphones. Try to find a better tube microphone at this price!

I was lucky enough to score this microphone used some time ago, and I have only pulled it out of the case for testing and a studio session on tenor saxophone. The recording turned out wonderful, and this microphone was the star of the show! I picked it over the several Neumann mics in my studio’s locker due to its beautiful warmth.

While the sound of these mics is highly regarded, the quality of craftsmanship at Alesis during this time was less than desired. In terms of functionality, everything works wonderfully, but the engraved marking above switches on this mic do not correspond to the correct functions. They are swapped as such:

(Marked function = True Function)
- Cardioid/Hypercardioid Switch = HPF Switch

- 0/-10 dB Pad Switch = Omni/Cardioid/Fig. 8 Pattern Selector

- HPF Switch = Cardioid/Hypercardioid Switch

- Omni/Cardioid/Fig. 8 Pattern Selector = 0/-10 dB Pad Switch

With this said, I had no problems using this mic after the initial headache of figuring this out!

This listing also includes a replacement shock mount, cables, and the PSM all in the original sturdy case (no key included)
