The Ruthie pedal was inspired by watching some of my favorite musicians like Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix and Adrien Belew push the usage of dynamics in their performances.

The Ruthie is a unique preamp that morphs from sparking cleans to fuzz depending on the player's pick attack and guitar volume. Believing that less is more, I’ve reduced the controls down to a single knob that cuts bass into the circuit. This knob tightens up the depth of the fuzz while maintaining an alive and dynamic feel for the player. I find this useful for a variety of tasks such as, maintaining the character of the guitar being used, cutting through a dense mix, and for finger style playing with a sensitive touch.

The Ruthie effect pedal uses dynamic companded asymmetric clipping to create the tactile response when you play guitar. Adjust your instrument volume to about 7 to conjure robust and sparkling cleans. Then increase the volume or pick harder and The Ruthie starts producing harmonically rich distortion all the way to fully gated fuzz.

Each Ruthie is uniquely painted, signed and dated by me. You will be able to see the texture of the paint and other happy accidents that showcase the pedal’s organic creation.

Components were carefully selected with a focus on audio quality and low tolerances, in some cases as low as 1%. It doesn’t matter what Ruthie you play, they will all sound exactly the same. I build and solder everything myself using SMD construction and internal bias controls to build a consistent circuit. I want to ensure that every pedal sounds perfect.

This version is from the Monochrome Edition, and is the first in this series to have glow in the dark paint incorporated into the artwork. These use the exact same circuit at the full color versions, but they are less money because they take less time to paint. A lower price point was something people has asked for.
