The Danelectro U2 is a dual-pickup hollow-bodied guitar made of Masonite and shaped similarly to a Les Paul. It was originally made from the years 1956 to 1958 but was re-issued in the late 1990s. The sound of a U2 is distinctive, coming from the lipstick pickups that are wired in series, rather than the more common parallel wiring. The body is made from a poplar wood frame with Masonite for the top and back.
This Danelectro U2 (model 56-02) has a turquoise-blue finish with a clear pickguard, creme-coloured vinyl side-body tape, Tone/Volume knobs with switch, chrome tuners, wooden adjustable bridge, rosewood fingerboard, dot inlays, lipstick-style bridge and neck pickups. The cutaway is at the 18th fret.
The neck is easy to play, the body lightweight, and the guitar sounds great and loud; it is especially suited to twangy music such as rockabilly, alternative country, and garage rock. Or when you just want to be noisy and groovy.
