I picked up this bass in Feb 2020 as a complete 1978 Fender Jazz Bass. I have included some photos of the original complete bass for your reference. I obtained a 78 wine red body in July 2020 and swapped all the hardware from this body to the wine red body. I waited a number of years to see if a project would come to this body and after enough time I decided to put it on the market.

Everything checked out for dating and authenticity. It was a serial Number S8 with matching neck and pickguard stickers, 137783 pots, grey bar pickups, mouse ears in the neck pocket. It looks to ash.

I can't guarantee that this is an original finish. I have other natural 75's that have a bit thicker poly coat. This one is is a bit thinner over coat and feels more satin like. I have a natural 78 P-Bass and it has a thicker poly. It has some typical checking, but it is not overwhelming. It is a great feel and great look, but it may not be original. My best guess is a refinish of a walnut Jazz Bass dur to the darker colors in the neck pocket.

Body Front

Condition to New: Good - Clean natural finish with few nicks or dings - light checking lines through clear finish on the upper front and

Condition to Vintage: Better than average - fewer blemishes than most of a 70's age. Fewer checks and less dominant / thinner check lines than most thick poly naturals of a similar age. Might be due to a re-finish.

Body Back

Condition to New: Very Good - Very Clean and smooth with very few nicks or dings - only 1 longer the check line from the top to the middle of the body back a few line checks by the lower horn

Condition to Vintage: Better than average - fewer nick, ding, indentation blemishes than most of a 70's age. Fewer check lines and less dominant check lines than most thick poly naturals of a similar age.

Body Top

Condition to New: Very Good - Top body line is very clean.

Condition to Vintage: Excellent - Top body line is very clean.

Body Bottom

Condition to New: Good - A couple of dings on the bottom. Most are not too noticeable visually but can be felt

Condition to Vintage: Average for period - A couple of dings on the bottom. Most are not too noticeable visually but can be felt.

Body Horns

Condition to New: Good - 2 noticeable dings on the bottom of the bottom horn. Thin check lines on the top horn front.

Condition to Vintage: Average for period - 2 noticeable dings on the bottom of the bottom horn. Thin check lines on the top horn front.

Body Heel

Condition to New: Very Good - Very few finish imperfections on the heel and around the back strap buttons

Condition to Vintage: Much Better than average for period - Very few finish imperfections on the heel and around the back strap buttons
