Here's the backstory on this amp. I originally took Gerald Weber's online correspondence course for tube amps. During this time I learned so much and had lots of phone conversations with Gerald. He was a Texas gentleman but mostly liked my dumb jokes. Every year he would have an "Amp Camp" where participants could come to his facility (a funky place on 5 acres where he lived and had a shop with workbenches). You could choose one of his amps to build and in four days you had his help plus he had this fellow that built his back panels there for assistance too. I chose the Solo 7 as it was priced in my budget. One evening I was privileged to go with Gerald to Austin to hit a couple clubs. One very cool club off the beaten path with an awesome band and Gerald actually was asked to play. He did a Stevie Ray Vaughn song! and something else. Then we hit another club in downtown Austin where Jimmy Vaughn was playing. Gerald knew Jimmy and had built him some amps. What an amazing experience. The ride to Austin and home was mostly Gerald telling stories of working with the likes Billy Gibbons, Joe Bonnamassa and an amp he built for the Blue Mans Group that would stand up better than the Orange amps they were using, kind of a heavy duty clone.

Key Features

  • 7 Watts Output: A perfect power level for home use and practice. 14 watts with optional power tube (included).
  • Built-in Attenuator: Cranks the gain but limits the output, allowing for full-volume tone at lower volumes or to go to "off" for complete silence.
  • Headphone Jack: For silent, private practice by disconnecting the internal speaker.
  • "Texas Tea" Control: A distinct control that adds a Tweed tone on top of or instead of the Blackface tone.
  • 3-Way Voicing Switch:
    • Stock Voicing: The standard Blackface-like tone. Jazz Voicing: Slightly more compressed and cleaner. Lead Voicing: A more cutting, British-inspired tone with more gain.
  • Reverb: Includes a standard tube/spring Hammond-style reverb.
  • Sounds Like a "Mini Super Reverb": The amp is voiced to capture the essence of a Blackface Super Reverb at a reduced volume.

The two blemishes on the amp are some abrasions on the tweed on the left side and two small chips on the plexi faceplate. Both my bad. The tube chart shows an optional 12BH7 power tube that is included. Gerald has a stash of old growth northern white pine in his shop he uses for the cabinet builds. The baffleboard is birch plywood. The cabinets and the tweed covering are done by Will Dyke, Armadillo Amp Works. His work is impeccable. The leather strap is heavy duty leather. The power and output transformers are custom made Kendrick interleaved specified by Gerald. He always made a big deal about that. The turret boards are mil-spec heavy duty glass epoxy. Actually they are partially wired ahead of time and all the student has to do is solder the components, tube sockets, transformers, pots and switches.

I am blessed to have spent time with such a pro amp builder and gentleman. I'm a better person for it! Every time I ever called him he either picked up immediately or texted he would call back, and did. Today I repair and build my own amps and always have my correspondence literature to fall back on. I miss being able to call him when something just isn't making sense to me.

Please don't low-ball me. I simply won't respond. Reverb has this 67% thing they allow which is nonsense. No messaging on price either. Make a legitimate offer you will back up with payment or move on. Thank you!

You can get a better idea on shipping cost by putting your zip code in where it shows the shipping cost right below the price at the top of the shipping. Reverb Safe Shipping is an option I always use shipping gear. It may add to the shipping price but is not optional, it has to be included for both the buyer and the seller. EG., I sold a 59 Gibson ES-225T that was lost in shipping and Reverb paid for the loss.
