Zak Starkey's, THE WHO, DW/Zildjian 1999 Tour Set, 7-Piece Collector's Maple 1999 - Cherry
Zak Starkey is widely regarded as the only drummer on the planet capable of adequately filling the shoes of his predecessor, Keith Moon. Zak toured with Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle in 1994 before officially joining The Who in 1996. After more than 30 years of playing with The Who, Zak departed the band earlier this year, cementing his reputation as the only a capable heir to Moon’s legacy and as a vital part of The Who’s ongoing legacy.
Zak Starkey played this 7 piece DW Collectors Series drum set from 1999-2001 in live performances with The Who, including their entire 2000 US Tour, the 2000 Teenage Cancer Trust and The Concert For New York in 2001. The Who's now legendary performance at The Concert For New York is widely considered to be the highlight of the entire star studded event, as well as The Who's greatest performance in the entire "Zak era" of the band. See video of The Who at The Concert For New York attached.
The set can be heard in recordings by The Who including Blues To The Bush, Old Red Wine, Real Good Looking Boy and Endless Wire. Zak also played the set on recorded performances with Johnny Marr and The Healers and Lightning Seeds. In 2001 he played the set along with another The Who alumni drummer, Kenney Jones at the Steve Marriott Tribute Show.
The set remains in excellent condition with only some minor scuffs and scrapes visible from its years touring with one of the most important rock bands of all time. The tom mount on one bass drum has been completely removed. The tom mount on the other bass drum has been moved from its original position and two of the original holes are visible. The Remo heads are the original heads that were on the set when we received it from Zak.
The set includes a pair of custom "The Who" logo bass drum heads that were initially designed for the set, but ultimately ditched before they could be used onstage. Zak signed both heads prominently "Zak Starkey, The WHO O->". One of the heads is also signed by Roger Daltrey.
All of the cymbals are signed by Zak Starkey.
A pair of Zak's signed drumsticks, a collection of Zak's The Who tour itinerary books and and an original Concert For New York poster signed by Roger Daltrey, Pete Townsend, John Entwistle, Zak Starkey PLUS, Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder are also included.
All of the drums, cymbals and hardware below are included. The snare drum in the photos is not included.
