The Bender Royale is classic British fuzz in three clicks — from spitty, rude bite to fat, sustaining roar. If you want that unmistakable Tone Bender attitude without vintage drama (or boutique indecision), this one makes the decision simple: pick an era, set the Attack, and play.

Description

The Electro-Harmonix Bender Royale is an all-analog fuzz built around three Tone Bender–style voices, selectable via a simple 3-way switch. It’s designed for players who want the behavior of classic British fuzz — snarling mids, splatty edges, and chewy sustain — without chasing fragile vintage units or paying boutique premiums.

What it’s for (the one job): British fuzz texture — the kind that turns a straightforward riff into a statement. Great for garage, psych, post-punk, and any track that wants a forward, vocal midrange fuzz that still feels dynamic under your hands.

The three voices (quick mental map):

• Mk I.5: raw, spitty, immediate — the most “rude” and percussive option
• Mk II: thicker, classic late-’60s/early-’70s sustain and roar
• Mk III: richer and heavier with added tone shaping (Tone control is active here)

PN’s quick start (a usable default in 30 seconds):

• Start on Mk II (the safest “sounds like a record” setting).
• Set Attack at noon, Volume to unity, and (if using Mk III) Tone around 11 o’clock.
• If it’s too bright/spitty: lower Attack slightly or try Mk II.
• If it’s too thick/muddy: move to Mk I.5 or use Mk III with a slightly brighter Tone.

Heads-up (so the right person buys it): This is intentionally not a polite fuzz. If you want smooth, transparent gain, this isn’t the tool. If you want character, bite, and a fuzz voice that announces itself, it delivers.
