The Gibson L-7 has consistently been a player favorite - the wallet friendly alternative to the acclaimed L-5. Since their original inception in the mid 30's, they've been appearing on the bandstand offering exceptional nearly amplified acoustic tone ever since.

From the family of the original owner, this 1941 Burst example is one fine instrument, complete with everything to compete with its fancy L5 counterpart - with a much more approachable price point that has consistently increased in value. By this point, this body was constructed with a carved spruce top, with a 17" lower bout (this particular one measuring a hair smaller at about 16 7/8"). Laminate flame maple back and sides, seen here with a solid one piece stained in Sheraton brown, the sides sporting some nice Birdseye. Fully bound, the binding is in great shape without shrinkage. It has a later squiggly tailpiece in gold, a suitable fit for the guitar - the original likely long gone. Original rosewood bridge present, which appears to have been taken down slightly, the saddle fitted with screw inserts for the height adjustment screws - on the verge of being bottomed out. A nice Kent Armstrong Slimline humbucker has been added. A replacement pickguard is present with original mounting hardware. Cosmetically, the body is in great shape, free of cracks or structural damage - just simple checking, mild binding discoloration, and light surface play wear (notable between bridge and tailpiece). Internally, it has the standard issue two tone bar bracing - still with Kalamazoo label - A FON number 2426 further dating the guitar to 1941.

The neck is designed with the standard 25.5" scale length, the nut width measuring 1 21/32". It is constructed out of two very dark stained pieces of maple with a rosewood center strip - the fingerboard full bound and made of rosewood with the iconic split parallelogram inlay. The frets have been replaced, the nibs long gone, but all in good condition. The frets themselves are pretty clean likely having had a relatively recent level and crown, the only notable subtle wear towards the cowboy chord zone. The fingerboard itself is free of indentation, clean overall with some scratches and aesthetic nicks from the past refret. The neck is nice and straight with a good neck angle as mentioned previously - the bridge is currently bottomed out due to two inserts for the thumb screws which protrude out the bottom of the saddle about 1/32" - even still, the action is a standard 5/64" in height. The notes ring true in each register without issue - plenty of sustain and power. The peg head veneer features the iconic 40's "fat script" and unique decorative MOP inlay. Replaced gold Kluson style tuners present.
