Belt replaced. Repaired loading assembly.

The Sony PCM-2800 is a professional-grade DAT (Digital Audio Tape) recorder known for its high-end features like Super Bit Mapping, four direct-drive motors, and a four-head system enabling confidence monitoring. It supports recording from both digital and analog sources, features a SCMS (Serial Copy Management System) to record material with copyright signals, and includes both XLR and coaxial digital inputs/outputs for studio-level connectivity. This rare, professional model was intended for broadcast or studio use, not typical home consumers.

“A staggeringly good recorder which I've found to be extremely reliable and with great sound quality. It has three benefits against lesser machines:-

1) It's four head, meaning that you can monitor what has been recorded milliseconds after its been recorded. i.e. if there's a problem with level setting or a faulty tape you can spot this straight way.

2) It has SBM - Super Bit Mapping as a way of extending the audio recording dynamic range of an analogue recording. This is still used in modern Sony equipment such as the PCM-D100 digital SD Card recorder.

3) There is no SCMS. This means that digital output from a modern DAB Tuner can be successfully recorded and played back on this device. i.e. it will record even if there is a copy protect signal in the digital stream.”
