Aria Pro II TSB-500 Thor Sound 1980’s Matsumoku SN005031

The Aria Pro II TSB-500 is a standout example of Japanese craftsmanship from the golden Matsumoku era. Built in the early 1980s, the Thor Sound (Tri-Sound) series was Aria’s answer to the demand for versatile, high-quality basses at a working musician’s price.

Sitting above the TSB-400 in the lineup, the TSB-500 combines premium tonewoods, a set-neck construction, and Aria’s powerful MB-series humbucker with flexible Tri-Sound electronics. The result is a bass that’s compact, comfortable to play, and capable of delivering everything from deep, warm low end to a punchy midrange growl that cuts through a mix.

This particular instrument is in good condition with some visible playwear — scratches and buckle rash attest to its life on stage — but it has been recently set up to play smoothly. The action is comfortable, the intonation is solid, and the tone is as incredible as you’d expect from a Matsumoku-era Aria. The bass comes without case.
