This flagship model recreates the legendary mahogany shell from Ludwig's early days with a modern twist, crafted from a 3-ply shell with a poplar core sandwiched between mahogany pieces. Equipped with a maple reinforcement ring, this set recreates the classic vintage sound.
The core is made of 1/8" poplar, with the outer and inner layers sandwiched between 1/16" mahogany pieces, and features a 1/4" maple reinforcement ring.
The bearing edge is smoothly rounded, and the reinforcement features a 30-degree inner cut.
(20" Bass Drum/Legacy Maple)
A high-quality vintage sound characterized by a rich, thick, sustained bass and a soft attack.
This model features a 3-ply maple + poplar + maple construction. The Legacy shell features a maple reinforcement ring and is finished with coverings such as sparkle or oyster.
The 3-ply construction features a 1/16" maple outer and inner shells, a 1/8" poplar core, and a 1/4" solid maple reinforcement ring. A variety of coverings are available. 1/8" radius round, 30-degree inner cut. A controlled, vintage sound characterized by a thick, rich bass and a soft, clear attack.
This is a set configuration used from the 1950s to the early 1960s, with only the bass drum made of maple. Given the bass drum's large size, maple was likely used to produce a clear, distinct sound. This is a well-balanced and logical set configuration.
